The Manchester Police Explorer Program is designed to provide its members with insight into a career in law enforcement. We offer a number of activities that promote the healthy development of adolescent youth and young adults.
Career Development Explorers develop relationships with Manchester police officers and the community which has the potential to broaden future employment options. The career development aspect of our program includes training classes led by police officers and other law enforcement-related professionals with expertise in various areas of policing and law enforcement, as well as hands-on practical training situations and scenarios. Additionally, Manchester police explorers have the opportunity to earn ride-along privileges which further strengthens the relationships between explorers and police personnel and the community, while lending a realistic perspective of policing.
Leadership Experiences Manchester police explorers develop leadership skills to assist in the competent development of accountability and responsibility characteristics. Our post operates under a chain of command structure, which gives explorers an opportunity to hold a position of rank and lead a squad of their peers. Additionally, all explorers are exposed to a mentorship role with the addition of our Junior Police Explorer Program. Explorers serve as role models to 6th, 7th & 8th graders who are interested in becoming police explorers.
Life Skills Our police explorers are provided opportunities to develop mental and physical fitness through a variety of training and social activities. They are required to organize and participate in a number of fundraising projects. Each explorer has an opportunity to earn funds to defer out-of-pocket expenses for travel and activities. Explorers are required to report for duty in clean, pressed uniforms and are subjected uniform inspections. They are required to maintain a good academic record and conduct themselves in a respectable manner at all times.
Service Learning Manchester police explorers participate in activities that encourage them to develop the skills and desire to help others by providing services to the community. Some of the services include community relations, crime prevention and injury prevention assignments. They assist police officers with traffic details and security at major events such as the Memorial Day Parade, the 4th of July fireworks celebration, and the Thanksgiving Day Road Race.
Career Education Manchester police explorers participate in programs which develop skills for making ethical choices and fulfilling one’s responsibility to society as a whole. Explorers are bound by a code of ethics which is strictly enforced. They are required to work as a team and encouraged to help each other succeed. Explorers are required to represent the Post and the Manchester Police Department in a professional respectable manner, whether on or off duty. |
